Friday saw over 10,000 students walk through the doors at the UWE’s biggest ever Freshers’ Fair, where over 120 of UWE’s societies, networks and sports clubs gathered along with a host of commercial companies to entice students with a freebies and demos.
Displays by Pole Fitness, Cheerleading and Jiu Jitsu entertained the crowds in the main arena and aimed to inspire potential new members. Gemma Heywood, President of Pole Fitness said after the demo “700 people signed up to our mailing list, all 12 taster sessions are fully booked with people on the waiting list and we have 15 new members already”.
Popular attractions included a Friend’s Sofa, free Domino’s pizza and the end-of-day dance off, which saw charity volunteers from “It’s in the bag” Information, Support and Awareness of Testicular Cancer in Bristol and the South West dressed up and ready to show off their moves with anyone who chose to join in.
Catherine Turner, 2nd year student is back for her second Fresher’s Fair. “There was a great atmosphere, a lot of people enjoyed themselves and watched the dance off at the end”.
