Last night a woman’s body was discovered in the Avon Gorge, during a large scale search to find the missing pair. MADE in Bristol has reported seeing paramedics moving to a spot near the base of the cliffs, and the police have now confirmed that they’ve found the body of a baby girl. They “are confident this is the body of 5 day old Zaani Tiana Bevan Malbrouck.”

It’s too early to speculate on what really happened that night, but this tragic turn of events will no doubt shake everybody involved.

Charlotte Bevan was last seen with her daughter Zaani at 8.30pm by hospital staff, but was missing at 9.05. CCTV footage released by the police shows her leaving the hospital with her baby wrapped in a blanket.

At midnight the police helicopter was still searching the gorge with climbing teams, who are focusing their efforts on the area below the observatory. Clifton residents can expect the helicopter to be around for some time.

Yesterday, Ms. Bevan’s mother and her boyfriend Pascal Malbrouck gave a direct message to her in a press conference, a touching plea to see her home safe. DCI Simon Crisp also stressed that she has “nothing to fear”.

It’s a sad twist in the story, as efforts now turn to working out what really happened on that fateful night. Our thoughts are with Charlotte’s family.

We’ll have more on this story as it develops.
