UWE graduate Chris McCarthy came 13th this Sunday in the Bristol Half Marathon with a personal best of 1 hour 11 minutes.
Chris, who graduated from UWE in 2008, pulled back on his UWE colours to run the race. He and a friend helped to start up the Athletics Club during his time at the university. He tells WesternEye “I ran at UWE socially but the club wasn’t formally running so my housemate and I helped to start it up”
“We just ran socially as we fell into the uni lifestyle and with all the usual excesses I put on about 4 stone!”
Chris now competes regularly, running all distances from 5k to full marathons, of which his personal best is 2:42:43.
He joked “I enjoyed pulling on the UWE vest for the Bristol Half today; even better that it actually fits me now”.
Chris gained a bachelor degree in Health, Safety and Environment and is now a Health and Safety manager for Weetabix.
