Hello our lovelies, So how was your January? Christmas diets and detox all round... Yeah, nor us. We hope that your exams went swimmingly and that the results show the same! If not, keep your chins up, it's not the end of the world. We are lucky enough to be at a university that offers us fantastic student advice services and they're never too busy to help. As far as campus events are concerned, we rearranged the quiz as requested and made sure we had better prizes on offer and that we did it in a short enough space of time for you to all be able to go out after it. The only problem we had was… THAT NONE OF YOU SHOWED UP! Come on guys, we are fighting our hardest to keep the bar open but we can't justify that battle if you don't come down. It's your SU, so love it! We were therefore thinking of changing the day because we now know that people are more persuaded by the football on a Wednesday night than the quiz, Thursday nights are the most suggested. Let us know what you think on stmatts.committee@hotmail.co.uk or talk to us in person. Another thing very much worth mentioning is this year’s UWESU elections. How did the time fly?! Are you thinking of running for our next campus chair? If so, check out the article on the next page we have written telling you why you should go for it. We are happy to advise you with anything you need. On a really serious note, we are all aware that Haiti was devastatingly struck with one of the worst natural disasters in history. As your SU we want to be able to help the suffering survivors and families of the deceased over there. This is why we have a donations box in the bar which is doing fantastically well. If you have any ideas or suggestions about how we can raise money we are more than happy to make them happen. Anything we can do to support Haiti is worth it. There are lots of events in the pipeline at the moment, including another cocktail party, Haiti fundraising nights (possibly another angels auction as it went down so well for Children in Need), Singstar competitions and an 80s party. We'll keep you posted. As I am writing this article, I'm working in the shop, preparing to head over to Hartpury tomorrow night (29th January) for another executive meeting, so a note will be put on Facebook with the minutes and what was discussed. We'll let you know what's occurring. (Wow, somebody got a boxset of Gavin and Stacey for Christmas, and has been procrastinating with said box set). So that's all for now, just remember that the bar is open 8am-11pm every weekday. We need you to use it! This way we have justifiable means to negotiate events with drinks offers. Let's make it amazing again. All our love Jordley |
