Bower Ashton Campus Column February 2010

Mark Hughes

Hey Guys

I hope you're all well and doing ok?

As you hopefully already know, the SU elections are coming up very soon, so I hope you all keep your eyes open for details about that, and be sure to vote! The elections are so important because it's the time we select the people who are going to be making the decisions in the Students’ Union over the next year.

The elections bring with them a time of change, where we can look at what has happened this year and see how we can improve things for next year. So I really want to ask your opinion about what you think of the SU’s activity at Bower Ashton, how do you as students and staff feel we can make it better? Do you feel that things like Westerneye and the SU’s Facebook groups and online coverage are relevant and representative to us at Bower Ashton? Do you think they're useful for us and if not, how could we improve them? How do you feel about activities in the SU? Are they accessible to Bower Students and if not how can they be improved? I'd really like to hear what you have to say, so email me at bowercampuschair@hotmail.co.uk.

So what have I been up to? Well I've just returned from an exchange in Norway, where myself and other Drawing and Applied art students put on an exhibition of our work. It is a beautiful country and it was a fantastic experience. The plan is to send a group of students over again next year.

Over the Christmas holidays I was thinking about projects to pursue over the next few months, and I really want to look into making the centre courtyard area in the B-block tower into usable space for students. As it is at the moment, I think it's a waste of space and I don't believe that it would take much time or money to make it usable. I think it would be fantastic to be able to sit out there or even just exhibit work. Whatever happens I'll keep you posted.

See you soon!

Mark :)
