Big Chill Bar, Bristol

Sammy Maine

The atmosphere was far from chilly as I entered the abyss of the newly opened ‘Big Chill Bar.’ Famous by festival, the Big Chill gang decided it was time to bring a little piece of the field to the Bristol City Centre. Located on Small Street, the bustling bureau of booze, grub and quirky décor is the latest offering to the long list of high-topped, plastic rimmed students. It features a wall covered fully in vinyl sleeves, and giant ‘Big Chill’ lettering for you to do your arty-facts.

The menu is about as tasty as they come; including appetisers to get you started or bowls of feasts and treats – not to mention the rather sublime prices. The seating arrangement includes larger tables for popular peeps, materialised shaped boxes for your bum or a more modest two seater for a first date effect. And that’s just it, the Big Chill Bar feels perfect for most occasions – whether it be a spot of lunch with a mate, a proper piss-up with your pals or a first date setting that would probably guarantee a good night kiss.

But what about my dancing shoes?! I hear you cry. Well never fear, my fellow student folk for the Big Chill bar has plenty of artists to get your musical tongue tasting. On November 19th, they’ll be welcoming Movimientos Soundsystem, Cal Jader and DJ Vivo. If that’s not enough for you, Yam Who?, RSD and Soft Rocks will also be appearing over the next few weeks. The bar also hosts Swiss Tony’s Big Quiz and Rock & Roll bingo every Wednesday, featuring cash prizes and enough tequila to get you speaking Mexican.

So, if you’re a fan of Start the Bus, The Big Chill Festival itself or just fancy some tasty munch in a trend setting surrounding, the new Big Chill Bar is perfect for you.
